In the framework of the 3E seminar series on the topic of Experiments, Ethics and Economics, Prof. Ralph Hertwig held the lecture “Unpacking risk preference: From primates, babies, teenagers to old age and around the globe” on 14 December 2022.
In this talk Prof Hertwig reflected on the results and implications of a number of studies in which he has been involved and that all, in one way or another, have dealt with the existence, nature and determinants of risk preference, one of the conceptual building blocks of economic theories of human choice. The seminar touched upon questions of how to (properly) measure risk preferences, how stable they are, how they change across the lifespan, how they compare across humans and primates, and what shapes them.
