On October 5 and 6,\u00a0Infrachain\u00a0held its annual\u00a0blockchain hackathon: the\u00a0Infrachain\u00a0Challenge, sponsored by the Ministry for Digitalisation of Luxembourg.\u00a0The winners of this\u00a0year\u2019s\u00a0edition\u00a0are\u00a0the\u00a0Let\u2019sFixID\u00a0team, which comprises members from the Digital Financial Services and Cross-Organisational\u00a0Digital Transformations (FINATRAX) research group at SnT,\u00a0namely doctoral researchers Linda\u00a0Weigl\u00a0and\u00a0Egor\u00a0Ermolaev.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00ab\u00a0MEETS ID\u00a0\u00bb, Let\u2019sFixID\u2019s\u00a0project, is a decentralised management system for medical\u00a0e-prescriptions. It aims for a simplified exchange between doctors, pharmacies and health insurances,\u00a0and speeds up transactions.\u00a0The team\u2019s participants worked in an interdisciplinary environment, with areas of expertise ranging from computer science, information systems engineering to political science.\u00a0Members from various institutions joined the competition, including experts from\u00a0SnT, the\u00a0Research Centre for Finance & Information Management<\/a>\u00a0(FIM), as well as the\u00a0Project Group Business & Information Systems Engineering<\/a>\u00a0of the University of Bayreuth and Fraunhofer FIT.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThe FINATRAX<\/a> group accompanies societal change through technology, and this hackathon was a great way to demonstrate it,\u201d said\u00a0Linda\u00a0<\/a>, doctoral\u00a0candidate\u00a0at\u00a0SnT.\u00a0The\u00a0Weigl<\/a>\u00a0required\u00a0teams to\u00a0develop a\u00a0ground-breaking\u00a0solution based on\u00a0public\u00a0sector\u00a0blockchain in two days, which included\u00a030 hours of coding and\u00a0the creation of\u00a0a demo, followed by a\u00a0ten-minute pitch in front of\u00a0a\u00a0jury.\u00a0This year, six teams took part in the competition: Edda Luxembourg,\u00a0InTech,\u00a0Let\u2019sFixID,\u00a0Neofacto, The Backstreet Boys and the\u00a0Infrachain\u00a0Challenge<\/a>\u00a0(LIST). Each team was expected to develop a project that provided an\u00a0innovative\u00a0method of\u00a0public\u00a0data\u00a0transfer, such as digital bank certificates or certificates of residence,\u00a0through\u00a0the use of\u00a0a decentralised app (DApp),\u00a0which\u00a0relies\u00a0on blockchain technology\u00a0and runs\u00a0on a peer-to-peer platform.\u00a0Luxembourg Institute for Science and Technology<\/a><\/p>

Runners up in the competition were the\u00a0LIST and Edda Luxembourg, ranking second and third\u00a0respectively. LIST proposed an environmentally-friendly and blockchain-based solution for electronic waste management, while Edda Luxembourg focused on developing a consent control tool for citizens.\u00a0The winner of the best\u00a0public sector\u00a0blockchain\u00a0project received EUR 5,000 and the first and second runner-up received EUR 3,500 and EUR 2,000 respectively.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cCompeting\u00a0against long-established companies and research institutes added a lot of pressure on this 30-hour marathon, but I enjoyed every bit of it! We are very proud that we could represent\u00a0SnT\u00a0at this event, and we are looking for the next challenge,\u201d Linda\u00a0Weigl\u00a0concluded.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

The Ministry for Digitalisation will review every idea\u00a0submitted during the hackathon\u00a0and potentially offer\u00a0candidates to turn their\u00a0project into\u00a0a\u00a0public sector\u00a0application.\u00a0In today\u2019s world, this\u00a0type of challenge seems\u00a0to be an important consideration as many public documents are still paper-based,\u00a0and rely on scanning and manual encoding.\u00a0Players like\u00a0Infrachain,\u00a0a local non-profit\u00a0organisation,\u00a0are therefore important\u00a0to strengthen the\u00a0digitalisation\u00a0effort in Luxembourg\u00a0and allow blockchain-based documents to become operational in the\u00a0Luxembourgish\u00a0economy.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
