The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ictspring.com\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">tech\u00a0conference<\/a> gathers business decision makers, innovation managers, startups, researchers and venture capitalists from all over Europe.\u00a0The event was structured in various summits and side events, such as the FinTech\u00a0Summit and the Space Forum, and it featured current and former SnT experts as speakers.<\/p><p>On Day 1, <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/snt\/people\/andreas_hein\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Andreas Hein<\/a>, Head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/snt\/research\/spasys\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Space Systems Engineering (SpaSys)<\/a> research group, held a session in the framework of the Space Forum titled \u201c<strong>Back to the future &#8211; How space resources can save the Earth<\/strong>\u201d, in which he provided an overview of the possibilities and challenges offered by space resource utilisation. Starting from the data monitoring capabilities offered by small satellites \u2013 such as FloodCube, a CubeSat for flood monitoring being developed by SpaSys researchers \u2013 to other projects currently in the works, Hein gave the audience a taste of what\u2019s yet to come in the field of space resources, and how they can help us save the Earth.<\/p><p>Later in the day, former SnT researcher Beltran Fiz, CEO of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/digitalus.io\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">digitalUs<\/a>\u00a0and head of the team aiming to be the next SnT spin-off held a session at the FinTech Summit about \u201c<strong>Open Intelligence: KYC and AI<\/strong>\u201d, providing a glimpse of the wealth of personal information which can be found online, and how this can be used \u2013 in compliance with GDPR \u2013 by financial institutions. This kind of information, which is much more than that we can obtain from a simple online search, is already being used by intelligence and security services, and it can also be leveraged for Know Your Customer (KYC) purposes.\u00a0<\/p><p>On Day 2,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fdef\/dl\/dillan\/people3\/prof_dr_yves_le_traon\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Yves Le Traon<\/a>,\u00a0Deputy Director of SnT and\u00a0Head of\u00a0the Security Design and Validation (SerVal)\u00a0research group,\u00a0held a session at the Fintech\u00a0Summit.\u00a0Le Traon\u2019s achievements have recently been recently acknowledged by an international survey\u00a0(JSS) ranking him among the top\u00a020 most impactful\u00a0experienced\u00a0researchers\u00a0worldwide on software engineering for\u00a0the past decade.\u00a0In his talk on\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0<strong>Building a Data Science Lab in a Financial Compan<\/strong>\u00ab\u00a0, Le Traon explained what financial companies are looking for, what data science is capable of offering, and specifically how machine learning can improve processes in key financial areas such as fraud detection.
