Member<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Abstract<\/strong>:<\/p><p>Requirements\u00a0Engineering\u00a0(RE)\u00a0quality\u00a0control\u00a0is a crucial\u00a0step\u00a0for\u00a0a project\u2019s\u00a0success.\u00a0Natural\u00a0Language (NL)\u00a0is by\u00a0far\u00a0the\u00a0most\u00a0commonly\u00a0used\u00a0means\u00a0for\u00a0capturing\u00a0requirement\u00a0specifications.\u00a0Despite\u00a0facilitating communication,\u00a0NL\u00a0is prone\u00a0to quality\u00a0defects,\u00a0one\u00a0of the\u00a0most\u00a0notable\u00a0of which\u00a0is ambiguity.\u00a0Ambiguous requirements\u00a0can\u00a0lead\u00a0to\u00a0misunderstandings\u00a0and\u00a0eventually\u00a0result\u00a0in\u00a0a system\u00a0that\u00a0is different\u00a0from\u00a0what\u00a0is intended,\u00a0thus\u00a0wasting\u00a0time,\u00a0money,\u00a0and\u00a0effort\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0process.\u00a0This\u00a0dissertation\u00a0tackles\u00a0selected\u00a0quality\u00a0issues\u00a0in NL\u00a0requirements:<\/p><p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>Using\u00a0Domain-specific\u00a0Corpora\u00a0<\/strong>:\u00a0Syntactic ambiguity\u00a0types\u00a0occurring\u00a0in\u00a0coordination\u00a0and\u00a0prepositional-phrase\u00a0attachment\u00a0structures\u00a0are\u00a0prevalent\u00a0in requirements\u00a0(in\u00a0our\u00a0document\u00a0collection,\u00a0as\u00a0we\u00a0discuss\u00a0in\u00a0Chapter\u00a03,\u00a021%\u00a0and\u00a026%\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0requirements are\u00a0subject\u00a0to coordination\u00a0and\u00a0prepositional-phrase\u00a0attachment\u00a0ambiguity\u00a0analysis,\u00a0respectively).\u00a0We devise\u00a0an\u00a0automated\u00a0solution\u00a0based\u00a0on\u00a0heuristics\u00a0and\u00a0patterns\u00a0for\u00a0improved\u00a0handling\u00a0of\u00a0coordination and prepositional-phrase\u00a0attachment\u00a0ambiguity\u00a0in\u00a0requirements.\u00a0As\u00a0a\u00a0prerequisite\u00a0for\u00a0this\u00a0research,\u00a0we\u00a0further develop\u00a0a\u00a0more\u00a0broadly\u00a0applicable\u00a0corpus\u00a0generator\u00a0that\u00a0creates\u00a0a\u00a0domain-specific\u00a0knowledge\u00a0resource\u00a0by crawling\u00a0Wikipedia.<strong>f<\/strong><strong>or\u00a0Improved\u00a0Handling\u00a0of\u00a0Ambiguity\u00a0in\u00a0Requirements<\/strong><\/p><p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>A<\/strong>: Anaphoric ambiguity\u00a0is\u00a0another\u00a0prevalent\u00a0ambiguity\u00a0type\u00a0in\u00a0requirements.\u00a0Estimates\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0RE\u00a0literaturesuggest that\u00a0nearly\u00a020%\u00a0of\u00a0industrial\u00a0requirements\u00a0contain\u00a0anaphora\u00a0[1,\u00a02].\u00a0We\u00a0conducted\u00a0a\u00a0multi-solutionstudy for\u00a0anaphoric\u00a0ambiguity\u00a0handling.\u00a0Our\u00a0study\u00a0investigates\u00a0six\u00a0alternative\u00a0solutions\u00a0based\u00a0on\u00a0threedifferent technologies: (i)\u00a0off-the-shelf\u00a0natural\u00a0language\u00a0processing\u00a0(NLP),\u00a0(ii)\u00a0recent\u00a0NLP\u00a0methodsutilizing language\u00a0models,\u00a0and\u00a0(iii)\u00a0machine\u00a0learning\u00a0(ML).<strong>utomated\u00a0Handling\u00a0<\/strong><strong>of\u00a0Anaphoric\u00a0Ambiguity\u00a0in\u00a0Requirements:\u00a0A\u00a0Multi-solution\u00a0Study<\/strong><\/p><p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>AI-based\u00a0Question\u00a0Answering\u00a0Assistant\u00a0<\/strong>:\u00a0Understanding\u00a0NLrequirements requires domain knowledge that is not necessarily shared by all the involved stakeholders.\u00a0We develop\u00a0an\u00a0automated\u00a0question-answering\u00a0assistant\u00a0that\u00a0supports\u00a0requirements\u00a0engineers\u00a0duringrequirements\u00a0inspections\u00a0and\u00a0quality\u00a0assurance.\u00a0Our\u00a0solution\u00a0uses\u00a0advanced\u00a0information\u00a0retrieval\u00a0techniquesand machine\u00a0reading comprehension models to answer questions from the\u00a0same\u00a0requirement specifications document\u00a0and\/or\u00a0an\u00a0external\u00a0domain-specific\u00a0knowledge\u00a0resource.<strong>f<\/strong><strong>or\u00a0Analyzing\u00a0NL Requirements<\/strong><\/p><p>All\u00a0the\u00a0research\u00a0components in\u00a0this\u00a0dissertation\u00a0are\u00a0tool-supported.\u00a0Our\u00a0tools\u00a0are\u00a0released\u00a0with\u00a0open-source
