For most of us, this step probably involves making sure the windows are closed, the door is&nbsp;locked&nbsp;and you\u2019ve hidden any valuable items. However, we\u2019re living in a world now where most of the items surrounding us are \u2018smart\u2019 \u2013 they operate autonomously, respond when we talk to them and even predict our&nbsp;behaviour. That includes our cars. The safety of our cars no longer rests solely on you \u2013 the driver or&nbsp;keeper of the keys&nbsp;\u2013 but now also on the engineers producing the software of the internal computer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just the \u2018traditional\u2019 automotive companies producing cars anymore,\u201d explains head of t<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/snt\/research\/critix\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">he&nbsp;Critical and Extreme Security and Dependability research group&nbsp;(<\/a> at SnT,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/snt\/research\/critix\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">CritiX<\/a>. \u201cThere has been a&nbsp;transition&nbsp;where people have realised that cars are now IT&nbsp;products, and so IT companies are realising that they can do it too,\u201d he continues.
