Quantum technologies are set to transform cybersecurity. Malicious actors are already harvesting today’s secure data now to later decrypt with quantum computers. Current encryption methods protect everything from sensitive communications and financial transactions to healthcare data and government systems. This means action must be taken now to protect this critical data for the future.
SnT researchers and partners are tackling this through the Lux4QCI project. Lux4QCI is Luxembourg’s first quantum communication infrastructure, and is preparing the country for the quantum era. The project has created a trusted network infrastructure for quantum key distribution (QKD), and developed a proprietary key management system for use on this network. The network infrastructure connects research institutions, data centres, public infrastructure, and future satellite-based systems.
Lux4QCI is now a resilient and secure communication backbone, that plays a part in the wider European EuroQCI initiative. It positions Luxembourg at the forefront of quantum-safe communications and future quantum internet technologies.
