SUMMARY:FutureFinTech lecture: AI writes the code. Is your organisation ready for what comes next?
DESCRIPTION:Description\n\nGenerative AI is changing how software gets built. But the biggest shift is not that AI can write code. It is that, as code generation becomes routine, the real value in software development is moving somewhere else entirely.\n\nIn this FutureFinTech Lecture, Jan-Philipp Steghöfer argues that value is migrating upstream, to requirements engineering: the fundamentally human work of aligning stakeholders, resolving ambiguity, and turning intention into something a system can act on. Drawing on research into agile requirements engineering and an empirical study of AI-assisted development in industrial practice, he shows why requirements have always been the bottleneck in software projects, and why AI is now making that bottleneck impossible to ignore.\n\nThis shift matters acutely for financial services, where requirements carry legal weight, legacy systems encode decades of undocumented constraints, and the informal conversations that once kept shared knowledge alive are quietly disappearing. Organisations that have not yet built governance frameworks for this transition are already feeling the consequences.\n\nThe talk closes with two open questions: how should development organisations restructure around where value is now created, and how do we develop the next generation of engineers in a world where the traditional path through hands-on development is changing beyond recognition?\n\nJoin us for expert insights and audience Q&A. This event will be in English.\n\nAbout the speaker\n\nJan-Philipp Steghöfer is Head of Research and Innovation at XITASO, a German software engineering company, where his work focuses on the impact of generative AI on development organisations, agile requirements engineering, software security, and post-quantum migration. He also serves as the company's AI Governance Officer, responsible for ensuring teams have the tools they need while managing regulatory compliance and risk. Uniquely, he works directly alongside XITASO's development teams as a requirements engineer and software architect, combining research rigour with front-line industry experience.\n\nPreviously, he was an Associate Professor in Software Engineering at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology, where he conducted research on agile methods, large-scale software development, and model-driven engineering. His work has been published in venues including IEEE Software and the International Requirements Engineering Conference. \n\nRead more: https://www.uni.lu/research-en/events/futurefintech-lecture-ai-writes-the-code/
