SUMMARY:Doctoral Guest Lectures in Transport, Environmental and Spatial Economics
DESCRIPTION:Environmental Policy in the Transport Sector – A Quantitative Approach\n\nAbstract\n\nThis lecture focuses on simulating and measuring the effects of environmental policies in the transport sector through abstract models and empirical analysis. It addresses pressing policy questions such as whether the transport sector is contributing fairly to climate efforts, the need for carbon taxes on gasoline in regions like the EU and USA, the environmental justification for banning cars in city centers, the feasibility of carbon-free freight transport, comparisons between rail and air travel emissions, and the environmental impact of local versus overseas products. The lecture distinguishes between local pollution issues, particularly air pollution from cars, and global challenges like climate change, highlighting the need for more transport economists to engage with these critical questions.\n\nAbout the speaker\n\nStef Proost is emeritus full professor at the KULeuven. He has been teaching environmental economics, energy economics and transport economics to economists and engineers and supervised 25 Phd students .He is co-founder of the Energy Institute of the KULeuven and co-founder of the spin-off Transport Mobility Leuven (TML).\n\nLanguage\n\nEnglish.\n\nThis is a free lecture. Registration is mandatory.\n\nLocation: https://www.uni.lu/en/about/campuses/weicker-building/\nRead more: https://www.uni.lu/research-en/events/doctoral-guest-lectures-in-transport-environmental-and-spatial-economics-2/
