The LLC now tends to acquire mainly e-books because they offer quicker and wider accessibility and require less administrative work. Printed books may be bought if<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">a user specifically requests a print version, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">there are no digital formats available, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">the e-book is much more expensive, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">the publisher only sells its e-books to libraries as part of (expensive) packages, or <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">the e-book is not sold to libraries at all (this especially applies to textbooks).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>E-books are stored on the platforms of the e-book providers that often offer a huge variety of books from different publishers. Via the filters \u201cType of publication\u201d and \u201cShow only\u201d on the right you can restrict the result list to \u201cBooks\u201d and \u201cAvailable online\u201d only. <\/p>\n\n<p>Another option is offered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.a-z.lu\/discovery\/search?vid=352LUX_BIBNET_NETWORK:BIBNET_UNION&amp;lang=en&amp;mode=advanced\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advanced Search<\/a>: tick \u201cDigital Library\u201d in the top menu and set the \u201cMaterial type\u201d to \u201cBooks\u201d in order to restrict the search to e-books only. The licences the LLC acquire differ and access to e-books might be controlled by the so-called Digital Rights Management (DRM) \u2013 that means that some e-books can only be partly printed or downloaded for a restricted period of time (in PDF and\/or EPUB format) and some can only be read in a browser. Furthermore DRM often restricts the number of concurrent users as well as the period of time to read the e-book. In order to control this, using an e-book reader with user authentication via personal IDs is mandatory (e.g. Adobe Digital Editions). <\/p>\n\n<p>The information on the access conditions will be provided and\/or requested during the process of accessing a resource via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.a-z.lu\/discovery\/search?vid=352LUX_BIBNET_NETWORK:BIBNET_UNION&amp;lang=en&amp;mode=advanced\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a-z.lu<\/a>.
