Overview
The University Library offers publications needed by historians, whether as secondary literature or as source editions, whether in printed or electronic form.
All print and electronic resources can be found in the a-z.lu catalogue. Current issues of print journals are located on the display shelves at the beginning of each collection, classified alphabetically by title. Older issues need to be ordered via a form – see “Journals”. Classification codes are as follows:
- 900: World history and general historical periods
- 930: History of the ancient world
- 940-990: History of the modern world

Oldenbourg Grundriss Der Geschichte
series of books published since 1978, where introductions to the world’s historical cultures (e.g.” Greek History”, “The Frankish Empire”, or “History of China 1279-1949”) have been contributed by renowned experts. The volumes are revised at regular intervals and the series is being continually expanded. -

Das Lexikon des Mittelalters (LexMA) / The Lexicon of the Middle Ages
Since its publication between 1977 and 1999, Lexma is considered the key German-language reference work on medieval research. It covers questions related to medieval studies from the late antiquity (c. 300 AD) to 1500 AD.

The DA publishes critical studies in preparation for and accompaning MGH editions and reports on the current state of international mediaeval research. -

A quarterly journal that aims to encompass all topics concerning the research of Social History. -
Hémecht: Zeitschrift für Luxemburger Geschichte
A quarterly journal on the history of Luxembourg. -

Mediaevistik: Internationale Zeitschrift für interdisziplinäre Mittelalterforschung
This German journal offers a forum for studies in all important European languages and thus stressing and furthering the internationality of this particular field of research. The timeframe is approx. the 5th to the 16th century, corresponding to the geographical boundaries of Latin Christianity in the High Middle Ages. -
Österreichische Zeitschrift für Geschichtswissenschaften
An Austrian journal of historical studies appearing three times a year. -
Revue belge de philologie et d’histoire
A Belgian journal containing articles presenting original research in the areas of philology and history. The first issue each year is dedicated to Ancient History and Classical Philology, the third issue to Romance, Germanic and Slavonic Philology, the second and fourth to Medieval, Modern and Contemporary History. -

World Digital Library
Includes texts as well as images, maps, plans and films. -
Gallica
Offers a great deal of historically relevant material, albeit with a clear focus on the history of France. -
Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (DDB)
Pursues the goal of making important German cultural history records accessible to as many people as possible free of charge. -
Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH)
Best known and most important source collection on the medieval history of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nations. -
Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO)
Contains texts from all subject areas, whereby the majority of the works were printed in Great Britain and are therefore in English. -
National Socialism, Holocaust, Resistance and Exile (1933-1945)
As part of the online series “Deutsche Geschichte im 20. Jahrhundert / 20th -century German History”, the collection of sources relating to “Nationalsozialismus, Holocaust, Widerstand und Exil / National Socialism, Holocaust, Resistance and Exile” was published by De Gruyter Verlag in 2006. A license is required to access the sources.

Osmikon
Replacing ViFaOst, continues to offer the services previously found in ViFaOst, while being continuously developed both in terms of content and technology. At the same time, it is the gateway to the Specialised Information Service for Eastern, Eastern-Central and South-Eastern Europe. It is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). -
Portal on European History
All sections in this portal are concentrated on Europe from the 18th century to the present. Its main focus is on the publication of material (texts, images, maps, etc.) on European history. -
H-Soz-u-Kult
The most important communication platform for German-language historians is the Internet platform H-Soz-u-Kult, again part of the overall Clio-online offering. -
Manuscripta Mediaevalia
Provides free online access to the results of cataloguing German-language manuscripts. Manuscripta Mediaevalia has three main parts: Manuscripts, manuscript collections, manuscript catalogues. -
ArchivesPortalEurope
Provides access to archived source information as well as further information on archives throughout Europe. -
Regesta Imperii
One of the largest and most important source works on German and European history. -
eluxemburgensia

The digital Bildarchiv des Bundesarchivs
has 12 million photos relating to German history, with a clear focus on the 20th century. Currently, a representative cross-section of some 245,000 of its photos is freely available in a database. -
Virtual Library Historische Hilfswissenschaften
Ancillary sciences help in the preparation and classification of various historical sources. -
Centre virtuel sur la connaissance de l’Europe (CVCE)
The CVCE.eu research infrastructure offered by the University of Luxembourg provides access to thousands of documents and publications on European integration. -
