Moving to Luxembourg to study
Authorisation to stay and residence permit
The main point of contact is the Ministry of Home Affairs General Department of immigration – Department for foreigners.
Authorisation to stay
You will find more information on the conditions for residence in Luxembourg for students from third countries on the Ministry website.
Upon arrival in Luxembourg, non-EU applicants must submit their temporary authorisation to stay (AST), issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs – General Department of Immigration, to the Admission and Enrolment Office. Enrolment cannot be finalised without this document.
If you receive an admission letter, you will be required to provide an extract from your criminal record as part of the immigration procedure. We strongly recommend requesting this document from your country of residence in advance, so that it does not delay your procedure with the Ministry of Home Affairs, General Department of Immigration. We advise requesting it no later than the beginning of April, even if you have not yet received your admission decision.
