The Personalised Medicine Consortium (PMC) of Luxembourg is an initiative aiming to support research and make Luxembourg a leader in the adoption of personalised medicine into the national healthcare system. It brings together the LCSB (Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine) and the Life Sciences Research Unit (LSRU) of the University of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), IBBL (Integrated BioBank of Luxembourg), and the Laboratoire National de Sant\u00e9 (LNS).<\/p>

The PMC is led by an Executive Board consisting of Catherine Larue (IBBL), Paul Wilmes (LCSB), Ulf Nehrbass (LIH), Friedrich M\u00fchlschlegel (LNS) and Iris Behrmann (LSRU). The PMC\u2019s initial areas of focus were cancer, diabetes and Parkinson\u2019s disease and multiple collaborative projects were successfully launched and executed. Recently, the scope of the PMC has been extended to include other diseases and areas of interest (e.g. big data).<\/p>\n

\nThe PMC Fund<\/h2>\n

The PMC is keen to build new collaborations between clinicians and researchers from Luxembourg and foster new synergies. To aid in this process, the PMC has developed a fund to \u2018pump prime\u2019 new initiatives. This programme was successfully launched in 2014\/2015 and we are pleased to announce the new call for 2019 launched on July 1, 2018.<\/p>

The expectation is that the funding will be used to initiate new collaborative biomedical research projects between clinicians and researchers based in different research institutions. Priority will be given to projects that are novel and innovative, that are establishing new collaborations in Luxembourg and where preliminary data is needed prior to submitting an application to an external funding agency.<\/p>

The main expected return on investment of such funding relies on:<\/p>

  • Solving unmet clinical needs with an innovative approach<\/li>
  • Fostering research interactions between the three biomedical research institutes of Luxembourg<\/li>
  • Enabling researchers\/clinicians to develop this project into an externally funded project if successful<\/li><\/ul>\n

    \nPractical Information<\/h2>\n

    A minimum of two of the PMC funding organisations (IBBL-LIH-LCSB-LNS-LSRU\/UNI) must be involved in each funding application (ideally more). For full details about the call, the conditions of eligibility and the application process, you can download the PMC FUND Overview & Guidelines.<\/p>\n

    The 2019 call for proposals opened on July 1, 2018.<\/p>
