An international jury consisting of professors and experts in biology,\u00a0has just selected \u2013 among 9 candidates \u2013 the laureate of the Grand Prix 2018 en sciences biologiques de l\u2019Institut Grand-ducal \/ Prix CACTUS.\u00a0The prize has been awarded to\u00a0Paul Wilmes,\u00a0professor in Systems Ecology at the University of Luxembourg, head of the Eco-Systems Biology group at the LCSB and\u00a0FNR ATTRACT Fellow 2010-15.<\/p>

Fully committed to research in biology, Paul Wilmes is part of several international research societies, especially in the field of human microbiome research, and received national and international funding thanks to the quality of his research. The jury members particularly\u00a0pointed out\u00a0the high level of his scientific publications, his international involvement\u00a0and standing, the fact that he has obtained several patents and co-developed with collaborators a device called HuMiX, which allows the co-culture of human cells and bacteria under conditions\u00a0representative\u00a0of the human gut.<\/p>

After\u00a0the first edition\u00a0in 2013, it is\u00a0just\u00a0the second time that the Institut Grand-ducal has attributed this prize. Paul Wilmes will receive the prize on November 17, at the Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg, on the occasion of an academic session.<\/p>
