multi-omics, imaging, and mobile health) to accelerate biomarker discovery, diagnostics, and personalised treatments. Our main areas of focus are:<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Data Integration and Interoperability<\/strong><br>We develop methods to harmonise and standardise clinical and biomedical data, ensuring secure and FAIR-compliant sharing. This includes research and infrastructure development supporting federated data analysis, ontology-based annotation, and the integration of various healthcare data sources. <br>Projects: ImmUniverse, HeBA, EPND, CoVaLUX,&nbsp;ORCHESTRA,&nbsp;BIOMAP<br><br><strong>AI and Predictive Modeling<\/strong><br>We apply machine learning, deep learning, and statistical methods to analyse large-scale healthcare data available centrally as well as federated. The solution will be validated with hospitals&nbsp;and long-term care partners, to deliver trustworthy, sustainable AI solutions that strengthen dementia care, foster cross-border collaboration, and contribute to the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and global digital health innovation.<\/p>\n\n<p>The proposed hybrid dataspace infrastructure with agentic AI orchestration will enable secure, GDPR- and APPI-compliant federated&nbsp;data integration and analysis&nbsp;between Europe and Japan. Advanced multilingual natural language processing will extract key dementia-relevant variables and harmonize them into OMOP CDM and HL7&nbsp;FHIR standards. Clinician-facing tools will generate interpretable summaries of patient trajectories and provide early-warning signals for deterioration, supporting care planning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>We are coordinating the project from the academic side. We will translate&nbsp;&nbsp;clinical&nbsp;&nbsp;requirements&nbsp;&nbsp;into&nbsp;prototypes and&nbsp;&nbsp;validate&nbsp;&nbsp;them&nbsp;&nbsp;with&nbsp;&nbsp;end-users.&nbsp;&nbsp;To that end, we will lead the development of the technical backend for multilingual NLP, data harmonization, and RAG-powered orchestration. The project focuses on improving the reuse of unstructured clinical case report forms (CRFs) by structuring them into the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM). This initiative seeks to make clinical data more accessible and usable for researchers, ultimately supporting better clinical research outcomes.<\/p>\n\n<p>The project involves developing machine learning approaches for information extraction from medical and clinical research articles and their supplementary materials to enrich their contents and enhance their interoperability, findability, and reusability.<\/p>\n\n<p>We are coordinating the project and leading the sematic structuring, relation extraction, and modelling of CRF data. The project focuses on developing and validating an AI-based predictive algorithm to enhance organ allocation strategies for patients with decompensated cirrhosis (DC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).<\/p>\n\n<p>By combining a comprehensive data integration, predictive signatures from OMICs and radiomics, the project aims to create more accurate risk assessments and prioritization tools for liver transplant candidates. This will significantly improve liver transplant outcomes, reduce waitlist mortality, and harmonize organ allocation practices across Europe.<\/p>\n\n<p>We are leading multimodal data management and processing through the creation of a data management plan, the collection, curation, harmonization of data, the development of a sustainable and FAIR database and analysis portal for the project. By creating a collaborative&nbsp;data&nbsp;platform,&nbsp;EPND links existing European&nbsp;catalogues and research&nbsp;infrastructures, facilitating&nbsp;discovery,&nbsp;sharing and analysis of biological samples and data.<\/p>\n\n<p>By establishing principles for fair and transparent&nbsp;data&nbsp;governance, the project ensures the long-term sustainability for data access and reuse.<\/p>\n\n<p>At LCSB, we&nbsp;are co-leading the establishment of the&nbsp;EPND platform. It seeks to identify and validate biomarkers for disease progression and treatment response, enable patient stratification for personalized medicine, and build a data platform integrating clinical and molecular data for advanced analytics.<\/p>\n\n<p>BIOMAP applies multi-omics approaches, longitudinal patient cohorts, and advanced computational models to uncover disease endotypes and improve therapeutic decision-making. The project emphasizes FAIR data principles and interoperability to ensure sustainability and reuse of generated datasets.<\/p>\n\n<p>We lead the delivery of infrastructure for efficient, compliant data analysis and the refinement of disease endotypes and biomarkers through advanced integrative modeling, while managing data, software, and analytics. We also contribute to the identification of tissue-based signatures and pathways by building comprehensive disease maps for inflammatory skin pathways, accessible through the MINERVA platform for
