\nNeddylation of synaptic proteins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Neddylation is a post-translational modification in which the small ubiquitin-like protein NEDD8 is attached to target proteins. This modification plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, including the regulation of the cell cycle, signal transduction, and neuronal activity. In neurons, the neddylation of proteins affects synapse dynamics and synaptic plasticity, which are essential for learning and memory processes. Neddylation refines cellular processes like synapse stability, receptor regulation, and neuroplastic adjustments. Specifically, PSD-95 has been identified as a target of neddylation. Disruptions in the neddylation of synaptic proteins have been linked to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer\u2019s and Parkinson\u2019s. Therefore, studying neddylation offers a promising direction for deepening the understanding of synaptic functions and disease-related changes.<\/p>\n\n\n

\nAbout the speaker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Valentin Stein is a Professor of Neurophysiology at the University of Bonn<\/a>. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Center for Molecular Neurobiology Hamburg and the University of California, San Francisco. Upon returning to Germany, he became a junior group leader at the Max Planck Institute of Neuroscience in Munich before being appointed as a full professor at the University of Bonn.<\/p>\n\n\n
