\nAlterations of the neuro-immune communication in the development of neurodegenerative diseases<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Inflammation is a pathological hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer\u2019s disease (AD), and understanding the underlying mechanisms may facilitate the development of new treatments. It is now clear that dysregulation of peripheral innate and adaptive immune cells may play a key role in the development of neurodegeneration. Particularly, neutrophils have been shown to migrate from the blood into the brain and promote the development of cognitive impairment and neuropathological features in animal models of AD. T cells can also accumulate in the AD brain and contribute to disease development. This presentation will discuss key alterations of the neuro-immune communication in AD, focusing on the dysfunctions of neutrophil and T cell compartments promoting neurotoxic inflammation in AD.<\/p>\n\n\n

\nAbout the speaker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Gabriela Constantin is a Professor of Pathology and Immunology at the University of Verona<\/a>, Italy. She completed her medical degree and residency in neurology at the University of Milan<\/a> and obtained a PhD at the University of Verona. Her group<\/a>‘s work centres around the immune and inflammatory mechanisms promoting the development of brain diseases. <\/p>\n\n\n
