In detail
Beatriz Almeida graduated with a Bachelor and Master degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Beira Interior, Portugal, and possesses a multifaceted academic background encompassing biology, mathematics, and computer science. Throughout her master’s studies, she concentrated on biotechnology, molecular biology, immunology, and neuroscience, thus cultivating a robust foundation in biomedical research. In her master’s thesis, Beatriz embarked on a neuroscience-focused research journey aimed at inhibiting NOX1, an enzyme contributing to oxidative stress and inflammation, in Parkinson’s disease. Her thesis focused on neuroprotective mechanisms on dopaminergic neurons by investigating a 6-OHDA mouse Parkinsonism model with a broad range of techniques. Since June 2023, Beatriz has been working in the Neuroinflammation group at the LCSB as a research support technician specialized in in vivo imaging (two- and three-photon microscopy) and behavioural studies.
