Metabolomics and Lipidomics Platform

The Metabolomics and Lipidomics Platform is specialised in developing and applying mass spectrometry-based comprehensive analysis methods of small molecules in complex biological matrices. The platform supports a wide range of cutting-edge metabolomic and lipidomic approaches for several sample types, including

  • mammalian cells
  • bacteria, yeast
  • body fluids (e.g., cerebrospinal fluid, plasma, serum, urine)
  • stool
  • soft tissues (e.g., brain, liver, lung, heart, kidney)
  • others (e.g., dried blood spots)

To address the needs of researchers in this fast-changing field, the Metabolomics and Lipidomics Platform is continuously developing new analytical (targeted/untargeted) and tailored methods to address cutting-edge biological and biomedical questions. The platform also provides a comprehensive set of tools for a reliable data analysis based on a statistical evaluation.

Services

  • Quantitative LC-MS, GC-MS and IC-MS analyses: Metabolic profiling (Relative or absolute quantification of target compounds)
  • Untargeted LC-MS and GC-MS analyses (biomarker discovery, hypothesis-free approach): Discovery-based relative quantification of known and unknown compounds
  • 13C tracing analyses (stable isotope-assisted metabolomics): Quantification of intracellular fluxes, metabolic flux analysis, rel. pathway activities, qualitative changes in pathway contributions
  • Medium analyses – secretion and uptake rates: Precise absolute quantification of selected medium components
  • Structure elucidation: Accurate mass, isotopic composition, sum formula, interpretation of mass spectra
