Diese neurodegenerative Erkrankung betrifft weltweit mehr als 6 Millionen Menschen und wird in der Regel meist erst diagnostiziert, wenn bereits motorische Symptome auftreten und das Nervensystem erheblich gesch\u00e4digt ist. Eine fr\u00fchzeitige Diagnose ist daher von entscheidender Bedeutung, um rechtzeitig therapeutisch eingreifen und den Krankheitsverlauf verlangsamen zu k\u00f6nnen. Genau hier kommen die Mikroben ins Spiel, die den menschlichen Darm besiedeln.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eIm Rahmen unseres <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/lcsb-en\/research-projects\/expobiome-deciphering-the-impact-of-exposures-from-the-gut-microbiome-derived-molecular-complex-in-human-health-and-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ExpoBiome-Projekts<\/a>, das durch einen ERC Consolidator Grant gef\u00f6rdert wird, haben wir entdeckt, dass bestimmte kleine Proteine, die vom Darmmikrobiom produziert werden, die Aggregation von \u03b1-Synuklein ausl\u00f6sen k\u00f6nnen. Die Verklumpung dieses Proteins ist das molekulare Schl\u00fcsselmerkmal der Parkinson-Krankheit,\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Professor Wilmes, Leiter der <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/lcsb-en\/research-groups\/systems-ecology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Systems Ecology<\/a> Gruppe am <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/lcsb-de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LCSB<\/a>. \u201eMit dem neuen ERC Proof of Concept-Grant wollen wir nun pr\u00fcfen, ob sich diese kleinen, vom Mikrobiom stammenden Proteine als pr\u00e4diktive Biomarker genutzt werden k\u00f6nnen. Geplant sind Analysen von Stuhl- und Blutproben von Menschen mit Parkinson, von Menschen mit REM-Schlafverhaltensst\u00f6rung, die h\u00e4ufig ein sehr fr\u00fches Stadium der Krankheit markiert, sowie von gesunden Kontrollpersonen. Der Nachweis dieser vom Mikrobiom produzierten Proteine bei Risikopersonen und Patienten w\u00e4re der erste Schritt zu einem nicht-invasiven Verfahren f\u00fcr eine fr\u00fche Parkinson-Diagnose. Au\u00dferdem wird das Team die technische Machbarkeit und Reproduzierbarkeit der Methode untersuchen und eine Marktanalyse durchf\u00fchren, um das kommerzielle Potenzial abzusch\u00e4tzen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"ein-kooperatives-bestreben-von-der-forschung-zur-klinischen-umsetzung\"\n    >\nEin kooperatives Bestreben von der Forschung zur klinischen Umsetzung<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00fcr die Umsetzung arbeitet Prof. Wilmes im Projekt mit internationalen Partnern zusammen. Dazu z\u00e4hlen unter anderem etablierte Kooperationen mit Prof. Brit Mollenhauer von der <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paracelsus-kliniken.de\/pkd-akut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paracelsus-Klinik<\/a> Kassel und dem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umg.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Universit\u00e4tsklinikum G\u00f6ttingen<\/a> sowie mit der Forschungsgruppe von Prof. Ami Bhatt an der <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stanford.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stanford University<\/a>, die beispielsweise zur Probengewinnung und klinischen Studien beitragen. Weitere Partner wie Dr. Robert Hettich vom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ornl.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oak Ridge National Laboratory<\/a> und <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catalyze-group.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Catalyze<\/a> bringen ihre Expertise bei Messungen und Business Development ein. Zudem haben Unternehmen wie <a href=\"https:\/\/senostic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SeNostic GmbH<\/a>, ein deutscher Entwickler innovativer Diagnostik f\u00fcr neurodegenerative Erkrankungen, und <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlc.health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NLC Health Ventures<\/a>, ein Fr\u00fchphasen-Investor aus Amsterdam, bereits ihr Interesse bekundet.<br><br>\u201eVerschiedene Faktoren haben zu diesem ERC-Grant beigetragen: ein Gastaufenthalt an der Stanford University 2024, w\u00e4hrenddessen ich die wissenschaftliche Basis f\u00fcr das Projekt legen konnte, die anschlie\u00dfende Weiterf\u00fchrung der Arbeit hier in Luxemburg sowie die Unterst\u00fctzung der Rotary Clubs Luxemburgs im Rahmen des <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espoir-en-tete.lu\/le-projet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Espoir-en-T\u00eate<\/a> Programms\u201c, fasst Prof. Wilmes zusammen. \u201eUnsere Hoffnung ist, mit diesem Projekt den ersten Bluttest zu entwickeln, der auf dem Mikrobiom und seinem Einfluss auf diese chronische Erkrankung beruht und eine Diagnose sowie Prognose erm\u00f6glicht. Das w\u00e4re ein Meilenstein f\u00fcr die Fr\u00fcherkennung und Behandlung von Parkinson mit dem Ziel, fr\u00fchzeitig eingreifen zu k\u00f6nnen und die Lebensqualit\u00e4t der Patienten zu Europ\u00e4ischen Forschungsrat (ERC) im Rahmen des EU-Programms Horizon 2020 f\u00fcr Forschung und Innovation (F\u00f6rdervereinbarung Nr. 863664) gef\u00f6rdert.<br><br>Der Forschungsaufenthalt von Prof. Wilmes an der Stanford University wurde durch ein Stipendium der F<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fulbright.be\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ulbright-Kommission f\u00fcr Belgien und Luxemburg<\/a> sowie durch eine INTER-MOBILITY-F\u00f6rderung des <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fnr.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Luxembourg National Research Fund<\/a> (Referenz 17856242) unterst\u00fctzt.<br><br>Das Projekt \u201eMicrobiome-derived amyloids as triggers of protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases\u201c, durchgef\u00fchrt in Zusammenarbeit mit Prof. Michael Heneka und Prof. Alexandre Tkatchenko, wird durch Mittel der Rotary Clubs Luxemburgs im Rahmen des <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espoir-en-tete.lu\/le-projet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer
