Current position
Arman Melikyan is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law, University of Luxembourg.

Research
His research lies at the intersection of international economic law, EU external relations law and sustainable development. Arman’s doctoral research centered on the design, operation and systemic effects of trade and sustainable development chapters in free trade agreements. More broadly, his research addresses the trade and sustainability nexus, the reform of investor–state and state-to-state dispute settlement, the autonomy of the EU legal order in the context of new-generation trade and investment agreements, and procedural dimension of sustainability in international trade and investment regimes. Arman has published his works with European Papers, the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law, the Edward Elgar Encyclopedia of International Economic Law, Cambridge University Press and the European Investment Law and Arbitration Review.

Awards/ Distinctions
Arman has received European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) Scholarship from the European Commission for his LL.M. Studies at the College of Europe (2018-2019), Scholarship for Academic Excellence from the Government of Armenia for LL.M. Studies at Public Administration Academy of Armenia (2016-2018), Scholarship for Academic Excellence for LL.B. Studies at French University in Armenia/Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University from KASA Swiss Humanitarian Foundation (2015-2016), French University in Armenia (2013-2016), Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) (2012-2013). He also reveived van Calker scholarship to conduct a research stay at the Swiss Institute for Comparative Law (2023) during his PhD studies.

Work experience
Arman’s previous academic and professional activities include the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law, the Swiss Institute for Comparative Law, the European Court of Human Rights, the Constitutional Court of Armenia, Enhesa EHS Compliance Intelligence (Brussels) and the European Parliament.

Educational background
Arman obtained his PhD in Public International Law from Université catholique de Louvain (2025) and the University of Luxembourg (2025) under the supervision of Professor Henri Culot and Professor Hélène Ruiz Fabri. He also holds an advanced Master’s degree (LL.M.) in European law from the College of Europe (2019), an LL.M. from Public Administration Academy of Armenia (2018) and a dual LL.B. in French and Armenian law from Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University (2016) and French University in Armenia (2016).
