It was also a great occasion to celebrate the prolific careers of <a href=\"https:\/\/mathematics.ku.edu\/people\/david-nualart\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. David Nualart<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/math.uni.lu\/thalmaier\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Anton Thalmaier<\/a>.<\/p><p>The intense week was introduced by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/simone_niclou\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Simone Niclou<\/a>, Vice-rector for Research at the University of Luxembourg and by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/jean_marc_schlenker\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Jean-Marc Schlenker,<\/a> Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine. They underlined the development of the Department in Mathematics which has succeeded in a few years to position the University of Luxembourg as a major research player in algebra, geometry, probability and more recently in statistics.<\/p><p>The scientific programme consisted in more than 20 talks by invited speakers from Canada, France, Germany, Ukraine, Mexico, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, United States. Among them, the participants had the honour to attend a talk by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hairer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Martin Hairer<\/a> who was awarded the Fields Medal in 2014, considered as the Nobel Prize of Mathematics.
