{"id":848,"date":"2023-06-20T11:30:48","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T11:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/website.prod.unilu.spikeseed.cloud\/fstm-fr\/news\/fake-news-data-protection-and-techniques-of-social-engineering-2\/"},"modified":"2023-06-20T11:30:48","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T11:30:48","slug":"fake-news-data-protection-and-techniques-of-social-engineering-2","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-fr\/news\/fake-news-data-protection-and-techniques-of-social-engineering-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Fake news, data protection and techniques of social engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\"><p>The eighth edition of the Information Security Education Day (ISED) took place 2 June 2023 in Maison du Savoir on Belval campus and tackled the topic\u00a0<strong>\u201cSocial Engineering and Online Deception<\/strong>\u00ab\u00a0<strong>.<\/strong> 60 participants were present, a growing number in comparison to the previous years.\u00a0<\/p><p>The conference started with some welcoming words from Nicolas Mayer, Guillaume Haben and Gabriele Lenzini all part of the organization committee\u00a0and were followed by several talks from professionals in the industry including: <strong>Lars Weber, <\/strong>Spuerkeess, <strong>Jean-Louis Huynen<\/strong>, CIRCL, <strong>Xavier Herm\u00e8s<\/strong>, RTL Group, <strong>Sabika Ishaq and Anusha<\/strong> <strong>Moonshiram<\/strong>, WCF, <strong>Vincent Legeleux<\/strong>, CNPD and <strong>Sylvain Leconte<\/strong>, COGICEO.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0<i>ISED is our annual event to bring together students, researchers and practitioners on a hot topic in cybersecurity.. Due to the increasing number of attacks carried out through social engineering, we have decided to select this topic as the theme of the conference this year.\u201d<\/i> from Nicolas Mayer.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/snt\/people\/yves_le_traon\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Yves Le Traon<\/a>, Full Professor in Computer Science and part of the organization mentioned: \u201c<i>The presentations this year were especially captivating, primarily due to a balance between theoretical frameworks and practical aspects relating to social engineering and online deception.<\/i> <i>These topics are crucial and shed light on the ever-growing need to understand and counteract the sophisticated techniques employed by malicious actors in manipulating individuals and organizations in the digital and physical realms\u00a0\u00bb.<\/i><\/p><p>The talks were followed by some questions and answers and a networking lunch.<\/p><p><\/p><p><\/p><p><strong>About ISED<\/strong><\/p><p>The Information Security Education Day (ISED) is a yearly one-day event co-organised by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Luxembourg<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/dcs.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Computer Science<\/a>) and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.list.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST)<\/a>, sponsored by the Club de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de l\u2019information Luxembourg (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clusil.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">CLUSIL<\/a>) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/snt\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">SnT<\/a>). \u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Why an Education Day?<\/strong>\u00a0ISED is a yearly event aiming at providing new knowledge on a hot-topic related to security and privacy. The conference primarily targets the current and former students of the professional\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/studies\/fstc\/master_en_management_de_la_securite_des_systemes_d_information_professionnel\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Master in Information Security System Management<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>Why is it open to all practitioners?<\/strong>\u00a0ISED provides an ideal forum where academics and practitioners can learn about the different facets of a key-topic, exchange and discuss ideas, and compare experiences. In this spirit, ISED seeks to be an interdisciplinary event, open to all.
