{"id":833,"date":"2023-05-26T07:43:05","date_gmt":"2023-05-26T07:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/website.prod.unilu.spikeseed.cloud\/fstm-fr\/news\/math-en-jeans-2023-high-school-students-experience-math-research\/"},"modified":"2024-05-08T14:30:54","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T12:30:54","slug":"math-en-jeans-2023-high-school-students-experience-math-research","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-fr\/news\/math-en-jeans-2023-high-school-students-experience-math-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Math.en.JEANS 2023: high-school students experience math research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>In May 2023, 54 students from&nbsp;Lyc\u00e9e Alfred M\u00e9zi\u00e8res de Longwy,&nbsp;Lyc\u00e9e Classique de Diekirch,&nbsp;Lyc\u00e9e de Gar\u00e7ons Esch and Lyc\u00e9e Michel Rodange gathered at the Learning Centre in Belval for an immersive event in mathematics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guided by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/christophe_ley\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Christophe Ley<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/bruno_teheux\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruno Teheux<\/a> from the Department of Mathematics and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/thierry_meyrath\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Thierry Meyrath<\/a> from the Scienteens Lab, the students presented the results of their year-long research projects. They explained the problem they faced, the method they used and the solutions they found. Mathematicians from the University asked some questions and exchanged with the students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 15 following projects were presented:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Le chocolat empoisonn\u00e9<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Comment partager une pizza ?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Chocolat ou sucre ?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Le gratte-ciel et l&rsquo;ascenseur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Last man standing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Des d\u00e9s exceptionnels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Un casse-t\u00eate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Trier avec une pile<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Transcodage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Soluno<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Le probl\u00e8me de Jos\u00e8phe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">C&rsquo;est magique &#8211; un tour de David Copperfield<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Le probl\u00e8me des trois prisonniers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Mod\u00e9lisation de sports de raquette<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Comment trouver l&rsquo;\u00e2me-soeur?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, they participated in an interactive quiz on contemporary mathematics and engaged in a math workshop featuring board games and iPad games.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About MATh.en.JEANS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MATh.en.JEANS is a programme that aims to encourage young students to discover the hidden faces of mathematics. By working on their own projects under the guidance of a professor and a researcher, students are empowered to explore math in a creative and engaging way.
