And what were people so excited about? Mathematics!<\/p><p>The Mathemagical Pub quiz attracted over 60 participants with diverse backgrounds and ages, including a 15-year-old math enthusiast. The event was organised by the FNR funded and RePublic project and animated by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/hugo_parlier\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Hugo Parlier<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/bruno_teheux\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruno Teheux<\/a> from the Department of Mathematics (<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">DMATH<\/a>), together with Dennis Fink and Isabelle Schmartz from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science-center.lu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Luxembourg Science Center<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-dev4-reusable-blocks-image  object-fit--contain\">\n    \n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-image unilux-custom-image-block\"\n                alt=\"\"\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/pub_quiz.jpg\"\n                srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/pub_quiz-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/pub_quiz.jpg 500w\"\n                style=\"object-position: 50.00% 50.00%; font-family: &quot;object-fit: contain; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 4\/3; object-fit: contain; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure><p>The quiz was an opportunity to showcase the <strong>modern facets of mathematics<\/strong>, how much and how little we understand, and mostly to have fun with mathematical puzzles and magic tricks.\u00a0The competition was fierce, in a lively but friendly atmosphere. The questions and challenges were designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of math knowledge, and highlighted the <strong>interdisciplinary and social aspects of mathematics<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The success of the event was proof that math can be used to bring people together in an informal setting.
