This distinction marks her impressive work on the development of thin film solar cells and research on complex material systems used in them, like chalcopyrites and kesterites. She has been honoured as a driving force in the field of solar cell research.<\/p><p><strong>A traditional award celebrating collaboration<\/strong><\/p><p>Created in 1839 at Uppsala University, the title of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.se\/en\/about-uu\/traditions\/conferment-ceremony\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">honorary doctor<\/a> is conferred upon academics, primarily from abroad, who have established ties with Swedish academic researchers.<\/p><p>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/susanne_siebentritt\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Susanne Siebentritt<\/a> has worked for many years with the University of Uppsala, collaborating with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katalog.uu.se\/profile\/?id=N96-1555\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Marika Edoff<\/a>, Professor of Solid State Electronics and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katalog.uu.se\/profile\/?id=N1-643\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Charlotte Platzer-Bj\u00f6rkman<\/a>, professor in solid state electronics in the field of photovoltaics. The collaboration spans from the development and characterisation of new materials for thin film solar cells to research on highly efficient <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fnr.lu\/research-with-impact-fnr-highlight\/research-trends-tandem-solar-cells-two-packs-reach-new-efficiency-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">tandem solar cells<\/a>\u00a0and understanding fundamental loss mechanisms. For example, the collaboration has resulted in a record breaking 15.6% efficient top cell for tandem solar cells.<\/p><p><strong>Additional recognition for Prof. Siebentritt<\/strong><\/p><p>Appointed \u00ab\u00a0TDK Europe Professor\u00a0\u00bb in 2007 at the University of Luxembourg, Susanne Siebentritt succeeded in very few years building the Laboratory of Photovoltaics with a team of top-level researchers. The impressive work of Prof. Siebentritt has been recognised at different levels: in 2014 she and her team received the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/fstm\/actualites\/fnr_awards_fuer_exzellenz_in_der_wissenschaft\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">FNR outstanding publication award<\/a> ;\u00a0in 2015, she received the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/university\/news\/latest_news\/professor_susanne_siebentritt_received_the_paul_wurth_2015_award\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">award \u00ab\u00a0Grand Prix en Sciences Physiques de l\u2019Institut Grand-ducal\u00a0\u00bb<\/a> also called \u00ab\u00a0Prix Paul Wurth\u00a0\u00bb and\u00a0in 2022, she received an <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/fstm\/news\/faculty_professors_among_winners_at_the_fnr_awards_2022\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">FNR Award for Outstanding Mentor<\/a>. In addition, Prof. Siebentritt\u00a0took part in the scientific board of <a href=\"https:\/\/luxembourgintransition.lu\/en\/consultation-bodies\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Luxembourg in Transition<\/a>, she is currently\u00a0in the board of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kopernikus-projekte.de\/en\/home\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Kopernikus projects of the German Research ministry<\/a> and\u00a0member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prapplied\/staff\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">editorial board of Physical Review Applied<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>Now, this new title as honorary doctor reinforces the prestigious and remarkable work of Susanne Siebentritt in the field of photovoltaics. \u201cI feel very honoured about it. Uppsala is the oldest Nordic university founded in 1477. It\u2019s ranked 131 in Times Higher Education and 78 in the Shanghai ranking. It is home to several famous physicists, Nobel laureates among them.
