This event is a great opportunity for academic members of the Department and bachelor\/master students in physics to discuss with colleagues and fellow scientists and to develop new synergies, reinforce existing ones, and expand their horizons into other areas of physics and materials science.<\/p><p>Following a welcome speech by Prof. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/alexandre_tkatchenko\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexandre Tkatchenko<\/a>, Head of DPhyMS, the session chairs <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/maria_belen_farias\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Maria B\u00e9len FARIAS<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/constance_toulouse\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Constance TOULOUSE<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/mathias_bersweiler\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Mathias BERSWEILER<\/a> as well as the 17 speakers from the DPhyMS research groups set the scene for a stimulating physics day. Many ground-breaking developments covering a broad range of topics in the field of solid-state physics, liquid crystals, living matter, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, solar cells, mesoscopic quantum systems, data science, and machine learning were presented. Notably is also the contribution by Hugo Aramberri from the \u00ab\u00a0Theory and Simulation of Functional Materials\u00a0\u00bb group led by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/university\/news\/latest_news\/professor_jorge_iniguez_named_2022_american_physical_society_fellow\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Affiliated Professor Jorge I\u00f1iguez<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.list.lu\/en\/materials\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>Besides the scientific program, this workshop also included three invited presentations: <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/fstm\/organisation_chart\/research_facilitators\/paula_souza\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Paula Souza<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/fstm\/organisation_chart\/research_facilitators\/paula_souza\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">FSTM research facilitator team<\/a> gave a presentation on external funding opportunities; \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/lcsb\/people\/sancho_moro\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Sancho Moro<\/a> presented the recent outreach activities of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/lcsb\/scienteens_lab\/workshops_for_high_school_students\/physics\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Scienteens Lab in Physics<\/a> and highlighted the efforts of the department to inspire future scientists; <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/aseem_rajan_kshirsagar\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Aseem Kshirsagar<\/a> shortly introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/luxdoc.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">LuxDoc<\/a>, the association of doctoral students in Luxembourg.\u00a0<\/p><p>For the first time, this edition also included an award ceremony for the three best oral presentations. Handed over by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/andreas_michels\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Andreas Michels<\/a>, deputy head of DPhyMS, the Top prize was awarded to Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/constance_toulouse\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Constance Toulouse<\/a>, Christina Hill, and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/pranab_biswas\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Pranab Biswas<\/a> who presented the research activities of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/research\/multifunctional_ferroic_materials\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Multifunctional Ferroic Materials<\/a>\u201d group led by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/jens_kreisel\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Jens Kreisel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/dphyms\/people\/mael_guennou\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Assistant Prof. Ma\u00ebl Guennou<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>With more than 170 participants, this third edition of the DPhyMS workshop was an outstanding event both scientifically and socially.
