{"id":537,"date":"2021-12-03T14:36:45","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T14:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/website.prod.unilu.spikeseed.cloud\/fstm-fr\/news\/prestigious-award-for-research-work-on-steel-construction\/"},"modified":"2021-12-03T14:36:45","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T14:36:45","slug":"prestigious-award-for-research-work-on-steel-construction","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-fr\/news\/prestigious-award-for-research-work-on-steel-construction\/","title":{"rendered":"Prestigious award for research work on steel construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\"><p>During the XIII Conference on Steel and Composite Construction which took place remotely on 25-26 November 2021, engineers from the University of Luxembourg received the Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira Award for their contribution entitled \u201cA reusable structural system fit for geometrical standardization and serial production\u201d.<\/p><p><strong>Rewarding research efforts<\/strong><\/p><p>The paper is the result of the work of Prof. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/doe\/members\/christoph_odenbreit\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Christoph Odenbreit<\/a> who heads the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/arcelormittal_chair_of_steel_construction\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">ArcelorMittal Chair of Steel Construction<\/a> at the University of Luxembourg together with researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/andras-kozma-570674110\/?originalSubdomain=lu\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Andras Kozma<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/doe\/members\/alfredo_romero\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfredo Romero<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/doe\/members\/jie_yang\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Jie Yang<\/a>. The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the construction sector is at the very center of this work. Within the H2020-RFCS Research Project \u201c<strong>REDUCE<\/strong>\u201d, sustainable steel- and steel composite solutions, which use the advances of a circular economy, have been found investigated.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-dev4-reusable-blocks-image  object-fit--contain\">\n    \n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-image unilux-custom-image-block\"\n                alt=\"\"\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/award_christoph_2.jpg\"\n                srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/award_christoph_2-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/award_christoph_2.jpg 500w\"\n                style=\"object-position: 50.00% 50.00%; font-family: &quot;object-fit: contain; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 16\/9; object-fit: contain; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure><p>\u201cWe feel deeply honoured to receive this award and we would like to thank all the persons involved\u201d, comments Prof. Odenbreit.<\/p><p><strong>About Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira Award<\/strong><\/p><p>The \u201cProfessor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira Award\u201d was launched in 2020 in cooperation between the Portuguese Association of Steel and Composite Construction (CMM) and the publisher Ernst &#038; Sohn with their magazine Steel Construction, which focuses on applied research and advanced design. This Award aims to honour the best contributions from the conference on Steel and Composite Construction.\u00a0<\/p><p>At the same time, the Award honours the achievements of Professor Eduardo de Arantes e Oliveira, born in 1933 and graduated in civil engineering in 1956 by the Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) and worked at the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC). In 1969, he was appointed full professor of material resistance at UTL. His main scientific achievements are in structural mechanics and the initial finite element method. He was several times Dean of UTL, Director of LNEC and Secretary of State for Science.
