More than 150 participants attended the event organised in the frame of the ERA Chair in Mathematical Statistics and Data Science (SanDAL) and supported by the European Horizon 2020 programme and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).<\/p><p><strong>Fruitful discussions<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><p>The conference was introduced by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/yannick_baraud\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Yannick Baraud<\/a>, SanDAL ERA Chair Holder, who welcomed all the speakers and participants for the first edition of the International Conference on Statistics and Related Fields (ICON STARF). font-family: &quot;object-fit: contain; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 21\/9; object-fit: contain; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure><p><a href=\"https:\/\/people.epfl.ch\/sofia.olhede\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Sofia Olhede<\/a> (EPFL), <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.ucr.edu\/app\/home\/profile\/szhou\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Shuheng Zhou<\/a> (University of California), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stochastik.math.uni-goettingen.de\/index.php?id=14&#038;username=munk\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Axel Munk<\/a> (Georg-August-Universit\u00e4t G\u00f6ttingen) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statslab.cam.ac.uk\/~nickl\/Site\/_.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard Nickl<\/a> (University of Cambridge) showed some recent successful applications of statistical methods to fraud detection, genomics and physics respectively.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>About SanDAL<\/strong><\/p><p>The \u201cERA Chair in Mathematical Statistics and Data Science \u2013 SanDAL\u201d is a prestigious grant awarded to the University of Luxembourg by the Era Chairs under the EU\u2019s Horizon 2020 framework program. With a budget of 2.5 million euros for the period 2019-2024, the project will boost research and training in mathematical statistics and data science. The ERA Chair research activities focus on two areas: \u201cHigh-Dimensional Data Analysis\u201d and \u201cNew Mathematical Tools for Contemporary Statistics\u201d.
