{"id":401,"date":"2021-02-23T14:59:35","date_gmt":"2021-02-23T14:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/website.prod.unilu.spikeseed.cloud\/fstm-fr\/news\/researchers-exchange-about-advanced-engineering-materials\/"},"modified":"2021-02-23T14:59:35","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T14:59:35","slug":"researchers-exchange-about-advanced-engineering-materials","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-fr\/news\/researchers-exchange-about-advanced-engineering-materials\/","title":{"rendered":"Researchers exchange about advanced engineering materials"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\"><p>The interdisciplinary workshop \u201cWinter Workshop on Manufacturing, Mechanics &#038; Characterisation of Advanced Engineering Materials\u201d organised on 26-29 January 2021 by the University of Luxembourg and the University of Limerick gathered more than 60 participants.<\/p><p>The event was held in the frame of the <a href=\"https:\/\/2020driven.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Horizon 2020 Twinning project DRIVEN<\/a> \u201cIncreasing the scientific excellence and innovation capacity in Data-Driven Simulation of the University of Luxembourg\u201d.\u00a0It brought together researchers from the University of Luxembourg, the University Limerick, LIST, Cardiff University, University of Twente, Delft University of Technology, Ecole Pigier Nancy, Hochschule Trier &#038; Saarland University, the International Space University, the Indian Institute of Technology, and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences. Johnson &#038; Johnson Vision Care (Limerick) and SISTO Armaturen S.A. participated too.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-dev4-reusable-blocks-image  object-fit--contain\">\n    \n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-image unilux-custom-image-block\"\n                alt=\"\"\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/driven.jpg\"\n                srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/driven-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/driven.jpg 500w\"\n                style=\"object-position: 50.00% 50.00%; font-family: &quot;object-fit: contain; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 16\/9; object-fit: contain; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure><p>The workshop presented state-of-the-art as well as new advances in manufacturing, mechanics, and characterization of advanced engineering materials by senior researchers of the organising institutes, fostering exchanges about recent research activities in those fields. 18 doctoral students presented their projects in five minutes pitches. A jury of five members evaluated the pitches according to the following criteria: slides and story clarity as well as power of delivery.\u00a0<\/p><p>The winners of the pitches\u2019 competition reflect the interdisciplinary of the event:\u00a0<\/p><ul class=\"ulux-list\"><li class=\"ulux-list-item\">1st\u00a0prize:\u00a0\u201cOn the Internet nobody knows you&rsquo;re a dog: Proving your digital identity\u201d,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/snt\/people\/vytautas_tumas\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Vytautas Tumas<\/a>, University of Luxembourg (Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust)<\/li><li class=\"ulux-list-item\">2nd prize:\u00a0\u201cLaser welding of copper to aluminium\u201d,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/doe\/members\/karthik_mathivanan\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Karthik Mathivanan<\/a>, University of Luxembourg (Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine)<\/li><li class=\"ulux-list-item\">3rd prize:\u00a0\u201cMulti-stable reconfigurable metamaterials with translational and rotational degrees of freedom\u201d,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tudelft.nl\/3me\/over\/afdelingen\/precision-and-microsystems-engineering-pme\/people\/junior-research-staff\/zhang-yong\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Yong Zhang<\/a>, Delft University of Technology<\/li><\/ul><p>The last day of the workshop was devoted to two PhD training sessions: \u201cTechnology valorization and IP training\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/universite\/presentation\/organigrammes\/organigramme_rectorat_administration_centrale\/bureau_des_partenariats_du_transfert_de_connaissances_et_de_technologies\/sigmar_lampe\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Sigmar Lampe<\/a>, Legal Advisor for IP and Licensing at the University of Luxembourg and \u201cOn European grants &#038; life after PhD\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luxinnovation.lu\/contact\/stefano-pozzi-mucelli-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Stefano Pozzi Mucelli<\/a>, Senior Advisor for European R&#038;D and Innovation Support at Luxinnovation.<\/p><p>Most of the participants enjoyed the interdisciplinarity, the interaction opportunities offered despite the circumstances, the doctoral students&rsquo;
