A new article published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE by researchers from the Universities of Luxembourg and\u00a0Buenos Aires\u00a0answers this question using methodologies from Natural\u00a0Language Processing.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"evolution-of-trade-specialisation\"\n    >\nEvolution of trade specialisation<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/diego-kozlowski\/?originalSubdomain=lu\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Diego Kozlowski<\/a>, doctoral candidate in computational social science at the University of Luxembourg together with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/viktoriya-semeshenko-0528a4a\/?originalSubdomain=ar\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Viktoriya Semeshenko<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/amolinari\/?originalSubdomain=ar\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrea Molinari<\/a>,\u00a0researchers at the Interdisciplinary institute of Political Economy of Buenos Aires (<a href=\"http:\/\/iiep-baires.econ.uba.ar\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">IIEP-BAIRES<\/a>) from the University of Buenos Aires used\u00a0a well known technique in text mining \u00ab\u00a0Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA)\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0to search for latent dimensions in international trade, and their distribution across\u00a0countries over time. Results show both the main specialisation patterns of international trade, and\u00a0how countries evolve over time in their export baskets.<\/p><p>The open access article is complemented with an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ldaglobaltrade.uni.lu\/dashboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">interactive online data dashboard<\/a>\u00a0hosted at the University of Luxembourg.
