The workshop fostered exchanges about recent research activities on data science carried out at the University in life sciences, physics, economics, computer science and mathematics.<\/p><p>After an introduction by Prof. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/jean_marc_schlenker\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Jean-Marc Schlenker<\/a>, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) who underlined the importance to position the University of Luxembourg as a leader in data science, Prof. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/yannick_baraud\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Yannick Baraud<\/a>, SanDAL ERA Chair holder, gave an overview of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sandal.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">SanDAL project<\/a> which will boost research and training in mathematical statistics and data science at the University of Luxembourg.<\/p><p>Then, nine professors from different departments of the University of Luxembourg presented their research activities and more specifically the type of data they process and the tools they use. The workshop enabled discussion and interaction between students, professors and researchers. Many collaborations are already planned: \u201cThis workshop demonstrates how important it is to share our research activities not only externally but also internally to identify potential synergies,\u201d comments Prof. Yannick Baraud.<\/p><p>Two future SanDAL events are already planned:<\/p><ul class=\"ulux-list\"><li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandal.uni.lu\/winter-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Winter School on Mathematical Statistics \u2013 7-11 December 2020<\/a><\/li><li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandal.uni.lu\/international-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">International Conference on Statistics and Related Fields \u2013 12-16 July 2021<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The interdisciplinary workshop organised on 13-14 October 2020 at the University of Luxembourg gathered more than 60 participants in the frame of the European project \u201cERA Chair in Mathematical Statistics and Data Science &#8211; SanDAL\u201d.
