In the course of the FNR-funded Public-Private\u00a0Partnership\u00a0(PPP) research project \u00ab\u00a0StreaM\u00a0\u00bb, carried out by the University\u00a0of\u00a0Luxembourg in close cooperation with the industrial partner EURO\u2011COMPOSITES\u00a0S.A. and the\u00a0Luxembourgish Institute\u00a0of Standardization, Accreditation, Safety and Quality of Products and Services (ILNAS),\u00a0the partners have made significant progress towards an ISO\u00a0standard with regard to Value Stream Management (VSM).\u00a0<\/p>

As one result of the four\u2011year research project \u201cStreaM<\/strong>\u201d, a common method for the visualisation, analysis and continuous improvement of value streams has been identified. The unified VSM method ensures value-adding processes inside and beyond organisational borders. This could be validated in different manufacturing plants, for administrative process flows as well as for web-based business transactions.<\/p>

\u201cThe international standardisation of VSM enables organisations worldwide to visualise, analyse and continuously improve complex process flows, such as complete manufacturing systems, trade or service processes, and to detect wasteful steps in their operations. This will be ensured by means of a comprehensive VSM procedure combined with a common understanding of key value stream symbols, associated terminology and unified value stream parameters\u201d, explains PhD student Christof\u00a0Oberhausen.\u00a0<\/p>

Thanks to the great support of VSM experts as well as their national standardisation bodies in the five active member countries China, South\u00a0Korea, Germany, The Netherlands and Luxembourg, project leader Professor Peter Plapper<\/a> and his VSM\u00a0project\u00a0team have elaborated the details of the VSM draft standard at ISO\u00a0level. After four years of collaborative work, results of the FNR\/AFR-PPP research project StreaM were now launched as Committee Draft (CD) at ISO level.\u00a0<\/p>
