href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/research-departments\/department-of-physics-materials-science\/\">Physics and Materials Science<\/a> at the University of Luxembourg and Head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/research-groups\/experimental-soft-matter-physics\/\">Experimental Soft Matter Physics<\/a> group.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"list-highlighted__item  wp-block-unilux-blocks-highlighted-list-item\">\n    <header class=\"list-highlighted__header wp-block-unilux-blocks-highlighted-list-item-header\">\n    \n<h4 class=\"title text-18 font-bold has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"research\"\n    >\nResearch<\/h4>\n<div class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-bigtext\">\n    <span>\n shells, tubes and fibres. His activities span from curiosity-driven fundamental physics investigations to applying research results in solving real-world problems. He currently (2024) teaches the Continuum Mechanics course at the Department of Physics &amp; Materials Science. He is the organizer of a bi-yearly summer school on liquid crystals where he also teaches extensively, and he is frequently invited to give tutorials and summer\/winter school lectures around the world.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"list-highlighted__item  wp-block-unilux-blocks-highlighted-list-item\">\n    <header class=\"list-highlighted__header wp-block-unilux-blocks-highlighted-list-item-header\">\n    \n<h4 class=\"title text-18 font-bold has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"outreach\"\n    >\nOutreach<\/h4>\n<div class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-bigtext\">\n    <span>\n        \n    <\/span>\n<\/div><\/header><div class=\"list-highlighted__body wp-block-unilux-blocks-highlighted-list-item-body\">\n    <div class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-highlighted-list-item-free-content-area\">\n    \n<p>Professor Lagerwall initiated and held the license for the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fr\/news\/first-tedx-university-of-luxembourg-sets-the-bar-high\/\">TEDxUniversityOfLuxembourg in 2018<\/a> and was also heavily involved in the 2019 event. This followed upon initiating and organizing the first English language TEDx event in South Korea, TEDxSNUSuwon, in 2013. He frequently participates in Open Day events and science festivals, and visits high schools and also hosts high school interns.
