The Journ\u00e9e ALAR<\/em>, the annual congress of the Luxembourg Association of Radiographers and a key professional meeting for radiographers, took place on January 17th<\/sup> 2026, in Hollerich, Luxembourg City.  The event gathered approximately 100 radiographers (ATM de Radiologie), alongside professional organisations, European representatives and policymakers, including the Minister of Health, Martine Deprez. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the invited speakers was Dr Rui Pedro Pereira de Almeida<\/a>, Assistant Professor in Clinical Imaging in the Department of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (DHML)<\/a> at the University of Luxembourg. In his presentation, he introduced the University\u2019s new Bachelor en ATM de Radiologie<\/a> study programme and addressed the importance of developing a nationally self-sustaining training pathway for the profession. He highlighted current workforce challenges in medical imaging and the need to anticipate future educational and professional needs in Luxembourg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that these challenges are part of a broader European trend marked by workforce shortages and demographic change, with nearly 30 percent of radiographers over the age of 50. In this context, strengthening national education capacity in medical imaging represents an important step in supporting the long-term sustainability of diagnostic services.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participation of Dr Pereira de Almeida in the Journ\u00e9e ALAR <\/em>highlights the University\u2019s broader commitment to health professional education. Within the DHML, study programmes in health and medicine are offered alongside those in life sciences and are closely linked to the department\u2019s research activities. This combination creates a distinctive academic environment in which research, education and professional training come together to prepare trainees for professional practice and career development. The Bachelor en ATM de Radiologie forms part of this educational landscape, supporting the development of medical imaging expertise in Luxembourg. <\/p>\n\n\n
