Launched in 2023 by the University of Luxembourg, the Master in High Performance Computing<\/a> awarded its first diplomas in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This pioneering programme positions Luxembourg at the forefront of digital research and innovation by training the next generation of HPC experts at the intersection of parallel programming, hardware architecture, and artificial intelligence. Graduates have acquired the skills needed to implement high-performance computing\u2014an essential resource for artificial intelligence, scientific modelling, applied research, and large-scale industrial innovation\u2014and are now ready to contribute their expertise to research institutions, technology companies, and industry across Luxembourg and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n

Among the graduates, Luca\u00a0Guffanti,\u00a0reflects on\u00a0his\u00a0journey. For him,\u00a0the\u00a0Master\u2019s\u00a0programme\u00a0not only\u00a0provided\u00a0a strong\u00a0foundation\u00a0in mathematics, algorithms, and computational fundamentals, but also conveyed the core values promoted by the University:\u00a0cooperation, respect, inclusion, and integrity.\u00a0\u00a0Looking\u00a0back on the\u00a0past two years, he\u00a0particularly\u00a0appreciated the international environment and the diversity of the\u00a0programme.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cEach class was an opportunity for dialogue, each moment a moment of growth, and each project an occasion to think outside of the box, to question assumptions and take initiative\u201d,\u00a0he\u00a0stated.\u00a0\u201cThis degree is a passepartout, a key\u00a0for entering workplaces such as research\u00a0centres,\u00a0specialised\u00a0industries\u00a0and universities, but\u00a0also,\u00a0for joining communities of specialists. And yet, many of the doors that are opening for\u00a0us right now did not even exist when we started this master, and, similarly, we cannot prove\u00a0that the career each one of us will follow already exists.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \u201f<\/span>\n The first cohort of the MHPC is a small, hard-working, and tight-knit group. I was impressed by their willingness to go beyond the curriculum\u00a0through participation in HPC events, student jobs, and voluntary internships. As a result, they all found employment, with half of them pursuing a Ph.D. in HPC, AI and computational science. I look forward to meeting them again at future scientific conferences.\u201d\n<\/blockquote>\n
