Curiosity about how the world works is what led Joana Ferreira<\/a> to physics. She pursued her studies at the University of Luxembourg, where she completed a PhD in physics<\/a>, focusing on new materials for solar cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat I really like about research is the freedom it gives me,\u201d she explains. \u201cI can choose what I want to do and how to tackle new problems. That makes my work both challenging and exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Joana, physics is also a way to make sense of the world. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing! Physics can explain so many phenomena, like rainbows, electricity and magnets,\u201d she says. More than just knowledge, she believes the mindset of a physicist is key in today’s society, as it helps to approach problems differently and find new ways to innovate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With her story, she encourages young people, especially those curious about the world around them, to give physics a try. <\/p>\n\n\n
