The University of Luxembourg has been awarded the coordination of NEXTLOGIC, a major European Union research project focused on transforming urban mobility. Led by Prof. Francesco Viti<\/a> from the Department of Engineering<\/a> at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) and Dr. Laura Palacios-Arg\u00fcello<\/a> from the Center for Logistics and Supply Chain Management<\/a> within the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF), this four-year project will develop cutting-edge digital solutions to reshape urban logistics and mobility systems through collaborative innovation across Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n

Bringing together 34 partners from 13 countries, the NEXTLOGIC consortium spans 12 universities, 11 companies, research and technology organisations (RTOs), EU-level institutions, and eight cities selected as pilot sites to implement and test the project\u2019s solutions. The initiative focuses on reimagining the use of urban space and improving mobility and logistics services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, four partners from Luxembourg\u2014the City of Differdange, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), LuxMobility, and the Cluster for Logistics\u2014join the consortium, highlighting the country\u2019s commitment to advancing urban innovation and climate goals.<\/p>\n\n\n

\nA multidiscilplinary approach to smart mobility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The University of Luxembourg combines strong expertise in advanced traffic and transport data analysis, transport planning and control, mobility and traffic modelling, sustainable transport service optimisation, and supply chain and logistics management. Together, these areas position the university as a recognised leader in smart mobility research and support an interdisciplinary approach that connects engineering, computer science, human sciences, and economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uni.lu also reinforces its leadership role in the project through strong international partnerships. As a member of the prestigious MIT SCALE (Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence) network\u2014a global alliance of leading research centers coordinated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)\u2014the university maintains close ties with key players in logistics and supply chain management worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n
