The objective of this interdisciplinary project was to charge their mobile phones with the smallest amount of wind kinetic energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students carried out the project from a to z: they defined the concept, elaborated the design, and then built and assembled the turbines using mainly 3D printers. They also tested and optimized their design, taking into account possible marketing and commercialization aspects of the devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group was divided into six teams, and each team successfully produced one functional prototype. The competition was based on the aesthetic of the designs and the performance of the devices. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/doe\/members\/claude_wolf\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Claude Wolf<\/a>, senior lecturer at the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/research\/fstm\/doe\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Engineering<\/a> at University, identified team #5 as winners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about their future plans for the project, the students said that they would like to create a community of wind turbine enthusiasts in Luxembourg and why not commercialize them in a near future.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-dev4-reusable-blocks-image  object-fit--contain\">\n    \n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-image unilux-custom-image-block\"\n                alt=\"\"\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/07\/2.jpg\"\n                    style=\"object-position: 50.00% 50.00%; font-family: &quot;object-fit: contain; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 16\/9; object-fit: contain; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Engineering at the University plays an active role in energy management, and more specifically in wind energy potential, research.
