In his presentation, Math Bollen will explain their role in the ongoing energy transition, present some of the major challenges with each of them and show some of the ongoing research activities and results at LTU. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the speaker<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ltu.se\/staff\/m\/matbol-1.31464?l=en\">Math Bollen<\/a> received the MSc and PhD degrees from Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 1985 and 1989, respectively. Currently, he is professor in electric power engineering at Lule\u00e5 University of Technology, Skellefte\u00e5, Sweden. Earlier he has been among others a lecturer at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), Manchester, U.K., R&amp;D manager power systems at STRIAB, Gothenburg, Sweden, and technical expert at the Energy Markets Inspectorate, Eskilstuna, Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Math Bollen has published a few hundred technical papers and four text books: two on power quality and two on the future power grid. He is since many years one of the leading researchers on power quality, having introduced voltage dips as a research area, having more recently contributed to defining supraharmonics as a research area, and having developed and spread the concept of \u201chosting capacity\u201d. Beyond power quality, he has made research contributions to power-system protection, power-system reliability, integration of renewable electricity production, and smart grids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout most of his work, an important aspect has been the building of bridges between theory and practice as well as between academia and industry.
