The conference takes place in the frame of the AI4EDU<\/a> Semninar Series coordinated by Prof. Christoph Schommer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presentation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artificial Intelligence has made substantial gains over the last five years, outpacing the expectations of many experts. As the timeline of AI milestones has shrunk, apprehension regarding its impact on the education sector has increased. In the classroom, excitement and trepidation have grown about how specific tools might augment or subvert educational aims while on the societal level, it is unclear what aspects of human capacity will remain unique to humans. At the intersection of these concerns lie questions of assessmanent and what it means to build representations of the inner workings of both humans and machines. How and why we build these representations may lead us to strange and unrecognizable futures. In this talk we will cover three possible futures to try to unravel how AI may impact how we think about teaching and learning, and our understanding of how they happen in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biography<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charles Lang is a scholar and researcher in the field of learning analytics and adaptive technologies and the editor of the Handbook of Learning Analytics. His research focuses on adaptive educational systems and learning analytics and the implementation of data-informed systems into educational contexts. He is currently the Executive Director of the Digital Futures Institute, and Coterminous Professor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University.
