The design of INTRAVIT is based on the basic principle of an open natural circulation system with a single heated pipe section. The underside of the pool is at an elevation of 3.3 m and is connected to a heating pipe below via an adiabatic downpipe and riser pipe. The length of the downpipe is fixed, and the length of the riser pipe can be adjusted according to the inclination of the heating pipe.\n\nTo further study the characteristics of the bubbles during flashing in the boiling water in the rising tube, in the course of this project two wire-mesh sensors will be installed in the riser pipe. They will be used to measure the velocity of the bubbles, create a 3D visualization of the bubble structure, and accurately calculate the void fraction.\n\nWith the support of Fond Belval, a new test facility named FIBONACCI will be constructed on the Belval campus within the new experimental hall. This project is funded in-kind by both the University of Luxembourg and Fond Belval.
