By tapping into the geothermal energy from shallow subsurface environments and adjacent open waters, this initiative seeks to redefine ESPWs\u2014traditionally used in construction for earth retention and load-bearing\u2014as a viable and sustainable energy source. Central to the project is the development and validation of advanced coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) models, aiming to provide a detailed understanding of the ESPW systems' behavior under various environmental conditions and their potential for underground heat storage.\n\nThe research methodology encompasses both experimental and numerical investigations. Initial stages involve holistic simulations employing sophisticated THM models to predict the ESPW systems' behavior, which will be crucial for the design of an in-situ pilot project. This is followed by the construction and monitoring of an ESPW system within a real-world pilot, providing essential data to validate and refine our models. The final phase focuses on a comprehensive performance analysis, comparing observational data with simulation outcomes to optimize the ESPW design and operation for enhanced energy extraction efficiency. \n\nThis groundbreaking approach not only contributes to the diversification of renewable energy sources but also aligns with global sustainability goals by offering a method to significantly reduce carbon footprints. By bridging crucial knowledge gaps and advancing the understanding of ESPW systems, the EnergWALL project stands to make a substantial impact on sustainable urban development and the broader field of geotechnical engineering.","rp_start_date":"2025-01-01 11:15:35","rp_duration":24,"rp_main_funder":"FNR","rp_other_funders":[],"rp_external_partners":["ArcelorMittal"],"rp_keywords":["Energy Sheet Pile Walls (ESPW)","Sustainable Energy Extraction","Coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) Modelling"," InsituTesting","Renewable Geothermal Energy"],"rp_members":[{"name":"Arash ALIMARDANI LAVASAN","isPI":true,"isExternal":false,"featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwNzM0NzBfX0FyYXNoIEFMSU1BUkRBTkkgTEFWQVNBTg==","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/people\/arash-alimardani-lavasan\/","id":"50073470"},{"name":"Pierre HUBSCH","isPI":false,"isExternal":true,"featuredImageUrl":"","detailsPageUrl":"","entity":"ArcelorMittal"},{"name":"Saeed TOURCHI","isPI":false,"isExternal":false,"featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwNzUzNjlfX1NhZWVkIFRPVVJDSEk=","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/people\/saeed-tourchi\/","id":"50075369"}]},"research-project-status":[275],"research-project-type":[],"field-of-interest":[287],"organisation":[509,47,29,188,379],"authorship":[131,106],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/26629"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/core-researches"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/131"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/26629\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":26630,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/26629\/revisions\/26630"}],"wp:authorship":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/131"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/106"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=26629"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"research-project-status","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research-project-status?post=26629"},{"taxonomy":"research-project-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research-project-type?post=26629"},{"taxonomy":"field-of-interest","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/field-of-interest?post=26629"},{"taxonomy":"organisation","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/organisation?post=26629"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
