We are entering a new era whereby models will no longer have to be bound by the initial constraints that they were designed under. The winning strategies will be those able to use the data generated by experimental programmes or on-board sensing systems to conceive evolving and sustainable systems. DRIVEN focused on the following domains.

The mechanical properties of high-performance composites used in different applications are linked to the material\u2019s complexity, which results in a progressive damage behaviour prior to failure. This is difficult to characterise and to predict, and the lack of detailed knowledge is accounted for by the introduction of very conservative design safety factors. In order to reduce material weight and increase efficiency a damage tolerant design approach is needed, which requires costly and time-consuming inspections. Structural Health Monitoring techniques supported by simulations are a cheap and efficient alternative to physical inspections of the structure, allowing to detect overloading, damage initiation\/propagation, or any other indication that the integrity of the structure has been compromised and to tackle the issue.

Data-driven approaches are the preferred method for surgical simulations due to their ability to use patient-specific data for an effective planning and real-time results. Other methods are based on theoretical assumptions and may not reflect the unique characteristics of each patient. A wide range of image modalities (intra-operative images, cameras, virtual reality devices, MR elastography and ultrasound\u2026) can be used to provide the detailed information on the patient's anatomy and physiological parameters for more personalised and accurate surgical simulations and results.

DRIVEN built on the world-leading expertise of four partners and on knowledge-exchange (secondments, trainings\u2026) to help in achieving step changes in their disciplines, with applications to data-driven simulation on the presented domains.

","rp_start_date":"2018-10-01 14:47:56","rp_duration":42,"rp_main_funder":"European Commission - Horizon 2020","rp_other_funders":[],"rp_external_partners":["Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (Inria)","University of Limerick","University of Texas at Austin"],"rp_keywords":["Data-Driven","computational engineering","mathematical foundations","computer-assisted therapy","functional composite materials"],"rp_members":[{"id":"50000969","isExternal":false,"isPI":true,"name":"St\u00e9phane Bordas","featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwMDA5NjlfX1N0w6lwaGFuZSBCT1JEQVM=","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/blog\/people\/stephane-bordas\/"},{"id":"50001928","isExternal":false,"isPI":false,"name":"Jack Hale","featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwMDE5MjhfX0phY2sgSEFMRQ==","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/blog\/people\/jack-hale\/"},{"id":"50000691","isExternal":false,"isPI":false,"name":"Lars Beex","featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwMDA2OTFfX0xhcnMgQkVFWA==","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/blog\/people\/lars-beex\/"},{"name":"Andreas ZILIAN","isPI":false,"isExternal":false,"featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwMDMzNjNfX0FuZHJlYXMgWklMSUFO","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/blog\/people\/andreas-zilian\/","id":"50003363"},{"name":"Berta Joana MORENO SIMOES RATO","isPI":false,"isExternal":false,"featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwMDI2OTNfX0JlcnRhIEpvYW5hIE1PUkVOTyBTSU1PRVMgUkFUTw==","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/blog\/people\/berta-joana-moreno-simoes-rato\/","id":"50002693"}]},"research-project-status":[276],"research-project-type":[269],"field-of-interest":[287],"organisation":[54,47,29,104],"authorship":[131,106],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/10112"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/core-researches"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/131"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/10112\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":25257,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/10112\/revisions\/25257"}],"wp:authorship":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/131"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/106"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/10111"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10112"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"research-project-status","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research-project-status?post=10112"},{"taxonomy":"research-project-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research-project-type?post=10112"},{"taxonomy":"field-of-interest","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/field-of-interest?post=10112"},{"taxonomy":"organisation","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/organisation?post=10112"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
