Urban water management is a field of civil engineering in which the activities of engineers merge with the requirements and tasks of environmental protection. For the solution of tasks the linkage of technical know-how with natural sciences and social aspects is necessary. Essential tasks are:
- the provision of drinking water of impeccable quality-
- the harmless discharge of wastewater
- the use, storage and, if necessary, discharge of rainwater
- the purification of wastewater and the disposal of residual materials.
The aspects of recovering nutrients and energy from wastewater and sewage sludge, as well as the recycling of treated wastewater, are becoming increasingly important.
In practical and basic research projects, we pursue the goal of developing forward-looking and sustainable processes and technologies – especially in the field of municipal wastewater treatment. Technical facilities on various scales (laboratory, pilot, semi-technical) are available for this purpose. Many of our projects have a high practical relevance.
