Nicolas NAVET has been a professor at the University of Luxembourg since May 2012 and has served as head of the Department of Computer Science since February 2023, following his role as deputy head from July 2020.
Research
His research focuses on real-time embedded systems, communication protocols, design space exploration, and advancing the automation and optimization of electronic architecture development. Since the mid-1990s, he has collaborated on numerous projects with OEMs and suppliers in the automotive and aerospace industries.
Teaching
Prof. Navet has been the “head of teaching” of DCS since July 2000. He was the Study Programme Director of the Bachelor en Informatique from 01/2013 to 09/2017 (now BINFO). He teaches courses in statistics, computer architecture, operating systems and dependable systems at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
Outreach
In 2007, he founded RealTime-at-Work (RTaW), a company specializing in E/E architecture design automation tools that support the development of provably safe and optimized mission-critical embedded systems for cars, aircraft, helicopters, orbital launchers, power grids, and industrial systems.
Work experience
Before joining UL, he was from 1996 to 2012 with INRIA in France, as doctoral candidate, researcher then head of a research group in the field of real-time embedded systems.
Educational background
He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Berlin (1993) and a PhD in Computer Science from the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine (1999).
