Mael Guennou is assistant professor in the Departement of Physics and Materials Science, and leader of the research group on Multifunctional Ferroic Materials (MFM).
Research
MG’s research focuses on ferroic transitions and symmetry breaking phenomena in crystals, studied experimentally by solid state spectroscopy methods carried out in the lab and at large facilities such as neutron sources and synchrotron light sources. He is author and co-author of more than 70 peer-reviewed publications in physics and materials science journals.
Teaching
MG acts as the study programme director for the Master in Physics at the University of Luxembourg. He teaches physics at all levels, from basic physics for medicine and biology students in their bachelor to specialized solid state spectroscopy courses for PhD students at the doctoral school for science and engineering (DSSE). He is also involved in courses on Open Science and Open Access policies.
Work Experience
MG worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Grenoble (France) and at the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic in Prague. He then moved to the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology where he served 6 years at as a research associate. He joined the University of Luxembourg in 2019.
Educational background
MG started his studies in space science and engineering at the French Supaéro (now ISAE) before embracing solid state physics with a Master Programme at the University of Stuttgart and a PhD at the École Centrale Paris in France (now CentraleSupélec).
