Prof Laurence BERNARD

Laurence Bernard is a full professor of Nursing Sciences within the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine at the University of Luxembourg.

Her research interests include pandemics, patient safety, and risk management in the context of infection prevention (hospital hygiene) within healthcare settings. She is also interested in the academic and continuing education of nurses in infection prevention and the collaborative culture of safety. Over the past five years, Professor Bernard has published 14 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 3 scientific reports, 1 book chapter, and delivered 29 scientific presentations and 10 media interviews. She is also a member of 3 research networks and 2 communities of practice.

Professor Bernard has taught for 18 years at various Canadian universities, including 10 years as a professor at the University of Montreal. To date, her research has been funded by various Canadian granting agencies, such as the Robert-Sauvé Institute in Occupational Health and Safety of Quebec, the Quebec Nursing Intervention Research Network, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, as either the principal researcher or co-principal researcher in the fields of pandemic and biological risk management, occupational health and safety, and the development of nurses’ professional competencies. She joined the University of Luxembourg in October 2022.

She completed a nursing care technique program (Montreal, 2001), a bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences (Montreal, 2004), a master’s degree in nursing sciences (Montreal, 2006), and a Ph.D. in nursing sciences (Montreal, 2012). She undertook a postdoctoral fellowship in nursing sciences as a Fellow of the Nursing Collaborative at the Ingram School of Nursing at McGill University (Canada, 2016).
