Assoc. Prof Arash ALIMARDANI LAVASAN

Arash Lavasan is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Luxembourg. He leads the Computational Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (COMPSOIL) research group within the Department of Engineering.

The research of Arash Lavasan mainly focuses on the assessment of coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) behavior of the Geomaterials and numerical simulation of multi-phase systems in Geomechanics including development of advanced constitutive models. Additionally, development of innovative design strategies for geosynthetic-reinforced sustainable and resilient geostructures, application of soft-computing technics to Geomechanics, integration of inverse and sensitivity analyses as well as optimization technics in computation modelling.

In 2012, he has been awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship.

Between 2008 to 2012, he acted as adjunct lecturer at Azad university Tehran (central branch). In 2012, he started an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. Between 2014 to 2022, he acted as project leader and principal investigator at the collaborative research center SFB 837 “Interaction Modeling in Mechanized Tunneling”. In 2023, he joined the University of Luxembourg.

He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Geotechnical Engineering and Geomechanics from K. N. Toosi University of Technology, and his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Shiraz University in Iran.
