Launched in 2023 by the University of Luxembourg, Université de Bretagne Sud and Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Cybersecurity (CYBERUS) awarded its first diplomas to 11 new graduates on December 2024. They are now pursuing their career in academia or industry, equipped with very good knowledge in cybersecurity and able to tackle the novel challenges arising from the digital transformation of our societies.
The first year takes place at the Université de Bretagne Sud. Students learn the fundamentals and how to apply an interdisciplinary approach to cybersecurity, design and develop secure products and security architectures, test the resistance of software products and embedded systems to the latest cyberthreats. For their third semester, students choose between two specialisations: IoT cybersecurity (at Université Libre de Bruxelles) or software cybersecurity (at the University of Luxembourg). For the last semester, they do an internship in the field of cybersecurity within a company or in a research lab. At the end of the Master, students receive a double degree from the Université de Bretagne Sud and the Université Libre de Bruxelles or the University of Luxembourg depending on their specialisation.
Interdisciplinary approach
The joint Master provides a comprehensive education in cybersecurity. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including security of applications, systems, programming, and digital objects. This broad approach ensures that students gain a well-rounded understanding of cybersecurity. At the University of Luxembourg, students develop their expertise on security of applications, systems and programming with internationally renowned experts in these fields.
‟ I really liked the comprehensive approach of the programme, covering diverse aspects of cybersecurity. It provides a well-rounded understanding of the field, from technical skills to secure system design and research methodologies. Its strong emphasis on research and practical skills prepared me very well for the challenges of a PhD.”
