Ces mouvements ascendants et descendants sont caus\u00e9s par la redistribution de la masse sur la surface terrestre, telle que la pression atmosph\u00e9rique, les changements au niveau du cycle global de l\u2019eau ou la fonte des glaces au Groenland, \u00e0 l\u2019origine de mouvements de la surface terrestre allant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 10 centim\u00e8tres. \u00ab Imaginez la terre comme une balle de caoutchouc \u00e9lastique. Si vous appliquez une pression \u00e0 un certain endroit, il se produira une l\u00e9g\u00e8re d\u00e9formation. Voici un exemple : comme vous pouvez le voir durant les pr\u00e9visions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques, un anticyclone va causer un puits temporaire dans le sol mais celui-ci va rebondir une fois que l\u2019anticyclone s\u2019\u00e9loigne \u00bb, explique le professeur Tonie Van Dam : \u00ab Quand vous \u00e9tudiez la forme de la terre, par exemple la tectonique des plaques, et que vous ignorez ces fluctuations, vous introduisez des erreurs. \u00bb Le Prof. Van Dam a \u00e9t\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper le fondement th\u00e9orique permettant de mod\u00e9liser ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne et de montrer que les fluctuations sont suffisamment significatives pour fausser les donn\u00e9es de recherche.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-dev4-reusable-blocks-image  object-fit--contain\">\n    \n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-image unilux-custom-image-block\"\n                alt=\"\"\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2023\/07\/tonie2.jpg\"\n                    style=\"object-position: 50.00% 50.00%; font-family: &quot;object-fit: contain; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 3\/2; object-fit: contain; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure><p>\u00ab Le professeur Van Dam est une experte reconnue dans le monde entier pour la mod\u00e9lisation de ces observations g\u00e9od\u00e9siques. Elle est pionni\u00e8re dans la quantification des effets de charge hydrologiques et atmosph\u00e9riques et a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 leur importance dans de multiples syst\u00e8mes d\u2019observation g\u00e9od\u00e9sique, comme le GPS, le Syst\u00e8me global de positionnement \u00bb. L\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.egu.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Union europ\u00e9enne des g\u00e9osciences (EGU)<\/a> a appuy\u00e9 sa d\u00e9cision en ajoutant que son article paru en 2001 dans lequel elle d\u00e9crit ses observations est \u00ab devenu un classique dans le domaine de la g\u00e9od\u00e9sie \u00bb.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"cap-sur-les-changements-climatiques-et-la-geodynamique\"\n    >\nCap sur les changements climatiques et la g\u00e9odynamique<\/h2>\n<p>Au cours des derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, Tonie Van Dam a utilis\u00e9 ces m\u00e9thodes pour \u00e9tudier les d\u00e9formations de la cro\u00fbte terrestre et, \u00e0 partir de ces donn\u00e9es, a d\u00e9termin\u00e9 que la r\u00e9duction de la masse glaciaire au Groenland \u00e9tait la cons\u00e9quence des changements climatiques. Plus r\u00e9cemment, elle a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 un article scientifique fort remarqu\u00e9 dans lequel les chercheurs ont conclu qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019avenir, la r\u00e9gion sud-est du Groenland contribuera largement \u00e0 l\u2019augmentation du niveau de la mer. En 2017, elle est devenue vice-pr\u00e9sidente en charge de l\u2019\u00e9ducation et de la formation doctorale, des relations internationales et du genre. Depuis 2018, elle est en charge des projets strat\u00e9giques et directrice d\u2019\u00e9tudes du nouveau Master interdisciplinaire en sciences spatiales (ISM) \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Luxembourg.<\/p><p>Le professeur Van Dam est tr\u00e8s active au niveau international. Elle fait partie du conseil d\u2019administration de l\u2019International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS) et pr\u00e9sidente du Global Geophysical Fluids Center (GGFC). Elle a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 secr\u00e9taire de la section de g\u00e9od\u00e9sie de l\u2019American Geophysical Union (AGU) et pr\u00e9sidente de la division de g\u00e9od\u00e9sie de l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne des g\u00e9osciences (EGU).<\/p><p>Elle est l\u2019auteur de plus de 120 publications nationales et internationales.
